BELGIAN PREMIERE – AND UNDERNEATH THE EVERLASTING ARMS
Polyphony – insomnia – Beckett

Still, For to end yet again).

Launched at the Wiener Konzerthaus and performed twice MaerzMusik Berlin graindelavoix presents its new Beckett project at last in Belgium!

And underneath the everlasting arms is a program about sleep, not being able to sleep, deliberately postponing, suspending, exhausting sleep, a strange archeology of insomnia, based on 16th century musical works for the evening office of compline (Josquin, Sheppard, Gombert, Lasso) and incantations by the 20th century writer and ‘insomniac par excellence’ Samuel Beckett (Still, For to end yet again). A unique opportunity to hear those never performed texts in an exceptional setting!

BJÖRN SCHMELZER SPEAKS WITH THE DEAD

Björn Schmelzer has always been fascinated by the voices of the past, the desire to hear them and to evoke them. He shows that evoking those voices is a practice of listening in the sense of negotiating, made concrete into performing practice.

Wednesday May 3th at Kulak Kortrijk and Saturday June 24th in Brno.

May 3th, 19.30, De Demonen van de Oude Muziek, KULeuven Campus Kulak (BE)

Summer performances of Du Fay’s Italian motets at the beautiful cistercian abbey of Silvacane (Aix-en-Provence festival) and the 10th (anniversary) edition of Gaudete Festival in Northern Italy.
Beyond the cliché of the architectural proportions of Florence cathedral Schmelzer is rather inspired by the rhythm and pulse of the dancing spiritelli of Donatello’s cantoria whereupon Du Fay and his colleagues were singing.
