Weird times or not, graindelavoix is happy to announce its new triple CDTENEBRAE, containing the full cycle of Tenebrae Responsoria, Carlo Gesualdo’s tremendous swan song of 1611.

We believe it is a Glossa object to cherish, if not for the 3 included CD’s then for the fantastic booklet text by Slovenian philosopher Mladen Dolar, who wrote a new Gesualdo essay specially for this release, or for the concert pictures by Koen Broos. Of course we are proud and honored!

Thanks to everyone making this recording happen, from the sponsors and festivals that gave us the chance to perform this repertoire, to the artists, musical and visual, and the cooks who provided the needed quality support to cope with recording sessions of more than 10 days.

In a way, the CD couldn’t appear on a better moment, uncanny or not,
it’s definitely repertoire for these times…check it out!
As long as your local record shop stays closed, find the CD online today, or digitally from 17th of April on!

“I take the new recording of Responsoria by Graindelavoix in this light: as a concerted and rigorous attempt to do justice to this out of joint character of Gesualdo, his unplaceability, his zealous compulsion strangely coinciding with a supreme freedom, his unfathomable excess within the limits of liturgy and polyphony, his most intimate passion reaching universality, his historic legacy sending its arrow straight into the heart of the present.”
Mladen Dolar, booklet essay
