Sofie Vanden Eynde begon op de leeftijd van negen jaar gitaar te spelen. Haar sterke interesse in de muziek van de renaissance en de barok deed haar beslissen om definitief over te schakelen op de luit en de theorbe. In 2002 behaalde Sofie haar Meesterdiploma aan het conservatorium van Gent, waar ze studeerde bij Philippe Malfeyt. Ze zette dan haar studies verder aan het befaamde instituut voor Oude Muziek “Schola Cantorum Basiliensis” in Zwitserland. Hopkinson Smith was daar haar leraar. Sofie verwierf een internationale reputatie als specialiste voor historische tokkelsinstrumenten. Ze verleende haar medewerking aan verscheidene operaprojecten met Christophe Rousset, Paul Mc Creesh (beide als lid van l’Académie Baroque d’Ambronay), Howard Arman en Rick Stengaards. Met het ensemble “le Jardin Secret” won ze de eerste Prijs en de Publieksprijs op de Early Music Network Young Artist’s Competition in York. Hun eerste CD (Musique pour Mazarin) kwam uit in juni 2008 bij het label CORO, hun tweede (Auf Wiener Art) bij hetzelfde label in september 2009. Verder treedt ze op met Le Tendre Amour, The Queen’s Consort, Hathor Consort, Encantar, Musica Favola, Capriola di Gioia, Ensemble Pulcinella, La Chapelle Rhénane, in duo met Romina Lischka… Met de sopraan Rebecca Ockenden verdiept ze zich in het rijke repertoire van de lutesongs. Hun eerste CD (Mistress Elizabeth Davenant, her Songes) verscheen in maart 2011 bij het label RAMEE. In 2006 ontving ze de kunstaanmoedigingsprijs van de stad Lommel. In januari 2013 gaat haar nieuwe project DIVINE MADNESS (Souls in Exile) in première. In de voorbije jaren was Sofie te horen op de Regensburger Tage der Alte Musik, de Dag van de Oude Muziek, Midis Minimes, Early Music Festival York, Oude Muziek Festival Utrecht, Festival van Vlaanderen, Brezice Festival, Netwerk Oude Muziek, Brighton Early Music Festival, Musica Sacra, Handel Festival, BOZAR, AMUZ, Concertgebouw Brugge, Auditori Barcelona, Filharmie Köln, Philharmonie Luxembourg… Ze nam CD’s op voor de labels CORO, RAMEE, K617 en Phaedra.

SOFIE VANDEN EYNDE est née en Belgique. Elle apprend la guitare dès son plus jeune âge et son intérêt pour la musique poétique de la Renaissance et de l’époque baroque la conduit à s’intéresser au luth et au théorbe. Elle étudie avec Philippe Malfeyt au Conservatoire de Gand dont elle sort diplômée avec mention en 2002. Elle entre ensuite dans la classe d’Hopkinson Smith à la Schola Cantorum de Bâle. Sofie jouit d’une réputation internationale comme spécialiste des instruments historiques à cordes pincées. Elle se produit régulièrement avec des ensembles tels que Le Tendre Amour, Encantar, ou The Queen’s Consort. Son ensemble Le Jardin Secret a remporté le Premier Prix et le Prix du Public au York Early Music International Young Artists Competition en 2007. Le Jardin Secret a réalisé deux enregistrements : le premier est paru en juin 2008 et le second en octobre 2009. Avec la soprane anglaise elle se concentre sur le répertoire riche des lute-songs. Leur premier CD (Mistress Elizabeth Davenant, her Songes) est sorti chez RAMEE en mars 2011. Sofie participe à des festivals renommés tels que le Festival des Flandres, Styriate, AMUZ, Regensburger Tage der Alte Musik, BOZAR, Early Music Festival York, le Festival de Musique Ancienne de Sarrebourg, Organisatie Oude Muziek, Brighton Early Music Festival, Suffolk Villages Festival, Euroconcert, Brezice Festival, Musica Sacra, Dag van de Oude Muziek ou Händel Festival. Elle a obtenu en 2006 le prix de la reconnaissance artistique de Lommel, sa ville natale. Elle a enregistré pour les labels RAMEE, CORO, Phaedra et K617.

Sofie Vanden Eynde was born in Lommel. At an early age she started studying the guitar. She began her musical studies at the Brussels Conservatory. Her interest for the music of the Renaissance and Baroque led her to study lute and theorbo. She graduated with honours in 2002 at the Ghent Conservatory, where she studied with Philippe Malfeyt. She transferred to the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in order to study with Hopkinson Smith. She has gained an international reputation as a specialist in historical plucked instruments. Sofie has participated in various opera projects with Christophe Rousset, Paul Mc Creesh (both as a member of l’Académie Baroque d’Ambronay), Howard Arman and Rick Stengaards. She also appears with Romina Lischka, the Hathor Consort, Le Tendre Amour, The Queen’s Consort and Encantar. Her ensemble Le Jardin Secret was awarded both first prize and the audience prize at the York Early Music International Young Artists Competitions in 2007. The first CD with this ensemble was released in June 2008 and the second in October 2009. Together with the soprano Rebecca Ockenden, Sofie explores and performs the rich repertoire of the lute-song. In March 2011, their first CD was released (Mistress Elizabeth Davenant, her Songes) on the Ramee label. This CD was subsidized by the Flemish government. In 2006 she was awarded her home- town’s prize of artistic recognition. Sofie recently appeared in the Festival van Vlaanderen, Styriarte, Festival de Musique Ancienne de Sarrebourg, Euroconcert Barcelona, Dag van de Oude Muziek, Haendel Festival, Regensburger Tage der Alte Musik, Midis- Minimes, the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, the York Early Music Festival, the Brezice Festival in Slovenia and Musica Sacra.
